The Middle East right now is a political powder keg that only seems to be getting worse. On top of that, the region is very fragile environmentally and one of the regions that will be most adversely affected by climate change. There are a few organizations working to convene Jews and Arabs in shared spaces to learn about and address these issues — together. Learn about the impact this engagement is having on the region, on the lives of the participants in these programs, and on the prospects for continued cooperation in challenging times.

About Dr. Tareq Abu Hamed
Dr. Tareq Abu Hamed is the Arava Institute’s Executive Director and has just been named by Israel21c as one of 48 Israelis shaping Israel and the world. He established the Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC) at the Arava Institute in 2008. Tareq left the Institute in 2013 to become the Israeli Ministry of Science’s Deputy Chief Scientist and later the Acting Chief Scientist, the highest-ranking Palestinian in the Israeli government. He returned to the Arava Institute in 2016 as Director of CREEC and Academic Director and was appointed Executive Director in 2021.
