May 23 – July 5
Temple Emanuel and the Social Action Committee are again collaborating with Jean Appolon. Jean is a member of the Mass. Avenue Baptist Church and a well-known dance instructor and founder of Jean Appolon Expressions, a Boston-based Haitian dance company.
This year’s drive will be to collect school supplies and specific clothing items for girls and boys ages 11 – 19 in the Dominican Republic. Unfortunately, due to the current unrest and instability in Haiti, Jean and his dancers will be unable to travel there. They will spend a month in the Dominican Republic teaching dance. However, due to Jean’s extensive contacts in the Haitian community, he is able to work with various agencies in the state to provide much of what we collect to immigrant Haitian families who are in desperate need of help.
