“Artful Afternoons” is an interactive art appreciation and art making program for active older adults, with a new theme each time! Held on Thursday afternoons, this program offers storytelling, film, visual arts, music and more to stimulate the mind and soul.
No charge; all are welcome!

Artist Appreciation Workshop: Piet Mondrian
Join us as research librarian Michele Marram explores the career of Piet Mondrian, a Dutch artist most well known as a leader of the De Stijl movement. How did this artist evolve from painting landscapes to those odd squares and rectangles?? Following the presentation we’ll have a chance to create our own “Mondrian-esque” works.
Materials needed: Construction paper(white, red, blue, yellow, black), scissors, glue, pencil, ruler. If you don’t have construction paper, any paper available will do. (If you only have white paper you can use crayons or markers.)

Artist Appreciation Workshop: Wassily Kadinsky
This Russian artist is known as an early pioneer of abstract art. Join us as research librarian Michele Marram explores Kandinsky’s theories and evolution as an artist. Following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to create their own pieces of art using some of Kandinsky’s theories.
Materials needed: white paper, markers or colored pencils or pens, rulers, cups or glasses.
