Bar/Bat Mitzvah

6th Grade is a special year for students and families at Temple Emanuel as you begin preparations for Bar/Bat Mitzvah in the coming year.

As you are aware there are many different aspects to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation. Through the Family Education program at Temple Emanuel a multi-session pre-Bar/Bat Mitzvah program is being offered for ALL Temple Emanuel families (with children in either Religious or Day School) with current 6th graders who will be marking this important Jewish milestone in their life here in our synagogue community.

This series begins with a kick-off program on Sunday, January 9, 2011. The February/March seminar sessions include opportunities for parents along with their child/ren to learn about Jewish prayer, the Shabbat Shacharit (morning) service, Tallit & Tefillin, Mitzvah and Bar/Bat Mitzvah issues for the individual and the family. At least one parent should participate with their child each time.

We feel that this seminar is worthwhile and educational for parents as well as the students. Day school families participate each year along with Religious School families. These sessions are led by Rabbi Gardenswartz, Rabbi Robinson, Wayne Goldstein, our Director of Informal Youth Education and Terri Swartz Russell, our Family Educator.

Childcare for younger siblings will be available by advance reservation only for $5 per child during the B'nai Mitzvah Seminar sessions. Childcare registration info will be sent out as we get closer to the seminar dates in 2011.
