If you've never had a Bar/Bat Mitzvah and/or you want to expand your knowledge of Judaism, please join Temple Emanuel's Adult B'nai Mitzvah program. This two year course will culminate in an unforgettable B'nai Mitzvah service and celebration.
The Adult B'nai Mitzvah has been a cherished tradition at Temple Emanuel since the mid-1970s, when Rabbi Samuel Chiel and Hadassah Blocker, both of blessed memory, chose to offer this trailblazing opportunity to our members. Today, our clergy continue to offer this two year study program.
We now count more than 250 women and men, of all ages and backgrounds, who have taken on the joy and responsibility of learning to read Hebrew, the Torah and Haftorah, and study Jewish texts. Many of the graduates have become lay leaders in our congregation, and/or have studied for advanced degrees in Jewish fields, including a few who have become rabbis and cantors.
There is a current Adult B'nai Mitzvah program that began in 2014 which
will culminate with a service and celebration on April 30, 2016.
Students need to have basic Hebrew reading skills to join the class. If your Hebrew is rusty, or non-existent, then please plan on participating in a Learning to Read Hebrew class for adults so you will be ready to sign up for our next Adult B'nai Mitzvah program.
